A Few Words For Chris

My name is Maud.
I’m Marc’s girlfriend. Chris was Marc’s best friend. The friendship these two had was rare and beautiful.

Through their friendship, I got the chance to meet Chris and the privilege of becoming his friend too. I remember being so nervous right before I met him for the first time cause Marc had told me so much about him. That would probably make him smile, as humble as he was.

I felt like Chris and I were old pals from the moment we met. It was just easy. After a couple of beers and a couple of bad jokes, I was totally comfortable being myself around him. He was one of those people that I wasn’t shy to tell I loved him, I actually yelled it at him drunkenly over the phone many times and I’m happy I did.

I keep thinking of how much he liked speaking fake French and how good he was at it. Every now and then I would say something in French that Marc thought was impossible to pronounce and we would think about how Chris would say it and laugh. Continue reading

Hello,

You probably don’t know me but I have to tell you Chris left a huge imprint on my life, both as a musician and a person. When people pass on, you always hear people coming out of the woodwork to mention just how good that person was. Well, I can tell you right now I don’t think that could be more true of a person than of Chris. I was lucky enough to tour the US with him in 2010 and I learned more from watching him than from all my years of practice. The whole world is missing an amazing person right now and I just want you to know you have my support. I have a good amount of photos from that tour and today when I went back to look at them I noticed something. I have sooo many pics of Chris giving hugs….. he was all love and I will forever miss that energy.
Thank You for the wonderful tribute!
Noah York

Chris Reimer and Women

Hi there.
I’m Ryan, a dude from el Monte, California.
I wanted to tell you I saw Women play at the Echo in Los Angeles. They were so good I felt pretty much paralyzed all over.  It was one of those experiences where I was left feeling euphorically confused. I loved the songs being played but stood completely still, in awe, for most of that night.
He was god-like on guitar.
Love,
Ryan

Nikki,

My condolences and love to you and your family.

Chris was the Best. I always felt like we could never spend enough time together, despite being together any chance we had.
Wishing he is shredding, resting and joking his ass off. With no limits. In peace. Forever, somehow.
I loved him very much.
Having a really hard time believing.
Too many memories to list.
Much love and strong hugs.
Deegs

Hi Nikki,

I don’t believe we’ve met but I wanted to offer my condolences for the loss of your brother, and share a few memories of him. Chris briefly played bass in I Die Screaming, a grindcore band I formed with another friend who’d seen him play in Veritas. When we’d gotten wind Veritas were calling it a day we wanted Chris and his incredible talents in our metal band. His tenure was brief, playing on a demo we recorded before leaving the band to focus on other projects.

We were disappointed but understood. What was amazing to me was a year or so later when he sent me recordings of his project The Exercises, playing phenomenal noisy grind. He said he’d missed playing in IDS and wanted to start something in a similar vein; it was funny to find out that he’d put together a far better take on the genre by himself as a side project than the rest of us had managed to come up with focusing on it as our main outlet. The funny thing is, IDS continued on for a few more years, but as a trio; we never filled that bass spot. Continue reading

Remembering Chris

Hi Nikki,

First, my deepest sympathies for the loss of your brother. You’ve set up a great site to remember him and it’s really nice, as a person who unfortunately never met Chris personally, to read stories and memories.

I’ve posted an article on my site about Chris and my one and only real memory of his gift.

Dear Nikki,

First of all i want to send my love, support and condolences.

It’s a tragic loss we all can’t and don’t want to understand.

I had the pleasure to work with him and meet him many times with Women and The Dodos.

I saw your blogpost and wanted to send you these 2 videos i made during the last The Dodos tour in May 2011.

One video is from Munich playing with the Dodos, the other one is made in Amsterdam when the Dodos and the Luyas performed as ‘The Doyas’

Hi Nikki,

I don’t think we have ever met but I have known about you for a very long time. Chris was one of my oldest and closest friends. We have been close since meeting in high school, and he was even here at my house on Friday. He was the only friend to visit me when I moved to Phoenix Arizona. He is so special. I have attached some photos that I thought could go on his website. You do not have to use them all, I know there are a bunch. If you just pick some you like, i would really appreciate it. but please do use the one of him and I together. The photos start around 2003 or 4? and go up until recently.
I am thinking of you and your parents at this time. He was very special and it is a devastating loss.

I met Chris at a hiphop show at the Night Gallery.  The first time we hung out I went to see him playing bass with his Dad on drums for “Batboy the Musical” at Vertigo Theatre.  It was the same day as the last Veritas show.  We became good friends shortly after and we started writing music together and his talent was mind blowing.  He never ceased to continually amaze over the years with every little thing he did.  I was always trying to be on par with him in so many ways.  He always made sure to make me feel loved and appreciated.  We would always yell at each other for not releasing our solo music.  Our favorite thing to do was get drunk and be ipod djs for each other for hours and hours.  I am so grateful to have been friends and am so happy and inspired for all that Chris accomplished in his life.  You were truly one of a kind.  I love you.

Stay strong
-Morgan

Thank You

Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart. The family is shattered, broken, confused and in disbelief, but we are also so comforted and honoured by all of your words and images and thoughts.

We all thought that Chris Reimer was pretty fucking special, and the suggestion that others thought he was a fraction as amazing is buoying us up in this surreal time.

I can’t post the tributes as fast as they are coming in; if yours has not yet shown up please be patient. It will still appear. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and your heart.

Chris was five years and eleven months younger than me, but in so many ways we were twinned. He was my best friend from the moment he was born. We knew each other without need for words, though through the years there was nothing we could not discuss. I always believed and still do that we were two halves of the same soul. There was nothing I would not have done for my brother in life and now that he has moved on, there is nothing I won’t do to remember his spirit on earth.

He was a brilliant artist, a sensitive, intuitive, compassionate soul, and a seriously funny motherfucker.

He mattered. He still matters. Continue reading
